If you have heard any of my travel stories, you inevitably know about my many train travels in and across Europe. This L.A. Times article conjured up many rail-related memories not just in me, but also in my dad, who absolutely loves the European rail system. I could relate to this particular article; we’ve experienced first-class service on the Eurostar (London to Paris on our first trip to the continent), traveling in and out of Brussels-Midi (on a day trip to Luxembourg and roundtrip from London, again via Eurostar), getting stranded in Birmingham due to snow on our way back from Ireland (they bussed us back to Oxford), and taking that same Paris-Stuttgart-Munich train trip. Those are just snippets of my many experiences with the highly-efficient European rail system that I love oh so much. If only we had something in the U.S. even remotely close to what they have over there (no, Amtrak is nowhere near European-level quality), Americans would be more well-traveled and hopefully a lot more cultured.
